Pray for Leaders to Use Power Wisely

Government authority "is established by God." (Romans 13:1) Instead of a dictator, President, judges or a legislative body, God, through our Founders – in the first three words of the Constitution – graciously blessed "We the people" with the highest governmental authority in the United States!

Ever since the Pilgrims crossed the Atlantic "… for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith," biblically committed Christians in America have promoted our Lord's message of freedom versus bondage or coercion. Jesus said in John 8:32, "... the truth will set you free." He was referring to freedom from the penalty and bondage of sin. But in this country, the Lord also gave Americans the greatest political and economic freedom in history. Originally this meant limiting government to be primarily a protector, not a provider. As a result, Christians in the private sector established the majority of hospitals, schools and welfare organizations. That freedom also produced the largest magnitude of missionaries and mission finances in history.

We can express our gratitude to God for the privilege of citizenship in the freest and most prosperous country in history by being like the faithful steward of five talents instead of the slothful steward who buried his one talent (Matthew 25: 21, 26-30). Imagine the joy of hearing our Master say, "Well done, good and faithful servant" because we wisely used His ordained authority of our vote and followed His instruction to pray for our leaders (I Timothy 2:1-2).

Our leaders pass, enforce and interpret critical laws impacting everything we cherish and value:

Free exercise of our faith
Sanctity of life and marriage
Protection of our families from foreign or domestic harm
and economic freedom
